Digital Enterprise Across Lifecycle
In the past decade, the surge in technological advancements allowed product design to be more integrated and fast paced then it has ever been. This surge also required designers to communicate their design work effectively and rapidly across an enterprise. DEAL Grand Challenge, sponsored by Rolls-Royce Corporation, developed an approach for a digital enterprise architecture that seamlessly connects the virtual and physical world in each of the as-designed, as-built and as-used pillars of a product's life-cycle. The as-designed pillar covers conceptual and preliminary design as well as requirements tracking through MBSE. The as-built pillar uses CAD and PLM software to model and manufacture a proof of concept vehicle. Lastly, the as-used pillar uses physics-based models and empirical flight test data to predict and validate vehicle behavior. The communication between the pillars are enabled by an easy-to-use digital thread: Neo4j graph database. Overall, the team delivered best-practices as well as challenges on data infrastructure and the connections between the three pillars.
This project has been advised by ASDL, at Georgia Tech as well as Rolls-Royce Corporation. This work has been presented at 2020 ASDL External Advisory Board meeting; and provided a baseline for DEAL paper to be presented at 2021 AIAA Scitech Conference.
